Item: Mrs Henrietta Turner and St John Ambulance colleagues following the presentation of a Certificate by Princess Alexandra.
Description: This certificate was presented to Mrs Henrietta Turner by Princess Alexandra at a different venue (Image 2001.120.3520 refers).The Certificate states "The Grand Priory in the British Realm of the most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem". Minutes of a meeting of the Chapter, held on 13 May 1955 at St John's Gate, Clerkenwell, London, recorded the award to Mrs Henrietta Turner "for outstanding achievements to Hayle St. John Ambulance Nursing Cadet Division". The lady in the back row on the left is Hilary Goldsworthy. On the extreme right of the back row, is her sister Marjory Goldsworthy. The lady third from left is Mrs Sybil Petters, Divisional Superintendent Hayle St John Ambulance Nursing Division (She taught physics at Penzance Boys County School). Next to her standing wearing spectacles is Miss Florence Paul, County Nursing Officer. The lady seated to the right in the front row is Divisional Superintendent, Hayle St John Ambulance, Nursing Cadet Division, Mrs F.(Annie) Williams, with Mrs Henrietta Turner wearing the white apron (her husband was a Ministry of Food inspector during the second world war and also a Police sergeant at some time). In this photograph Mrs Henrietta Turner is showing her certificate to fellow members. The venue is the Redruth St John Ambulance Divisional Headquarters, circa May-June 1955.
