A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Identification

Item: St John Ambulance Brigade, Penzance Cadets.

Description: This photograph was taken in the car park at the rear of St John's Hall, Penzance, opposite the St John Ambulance Divisional Headquarters. In the photograph is the Penzance St John Ambulance Cadet competition team with the trophies they won in western area and county competitions in 1955 or 1956. The shield in the photograph is The Allen Shield which they won in both 1955 and 1956. Left to right: Cadet Keith Trezise, Michael Sheppard, Cadet Divisional Superintendent David F. Bunt, team leader Cadet Derek Beal, Divisional Officer Adult Division, Sam Scarborough, trainer of the team and, Cadet Peter Broad. In the background is the roof of the car park motor cycle and bicycle shed. To the right is a Cornwall County Council Ambulance which is a Austin Warfare registration LCV 990.
