A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Item: St John Ambulance Penzance Nursing Cadet Annual Inspection 9th November 1955

Description: Mayor Mrs C.F. Bazeley presenting a silver cup for the cadet of the year within Division to Sergeant Patricia (Pat) Ancell of the Penzance Nursing Cadet Division on 9th November 1955 on the Annual Inspection evening, which was held at the Divisional Headquarters situated at the rear of St John's Hall. From left to right: Mrs Mackenzie, 1st area officer; Mrs Y. Thomas, Divisional President; Mayoress Mrs C.F. Bazeley; unknown; Sergeant Pat Ancell; Miss Lucy Drew, ex cadet officer; Miss Florence Paul, county officer; Mrs L.H. Sheppard, Divisional Nursing Cadet Officer; Mrs C.M. Langridge, Divisional Nursing Cadet Superintendent. Mrs Thomas' husband was manager of Barclays Bank in the late 1950s and early 1960s. See also 03861 and 03866.
