Item: The "Eilean" entering Penzance Harbour
Description: The Barnstaple registered steel, auxiliary motor, schooner Eilean has just entered Penzance Dock. Rank's Store lies behind the schooner and on the right is a stern view of the port side of the Trinity House vessel Satellite. Eilean was one of the last sailing vessels, albeit now operating as a motor auxiliary, working in the British Isles coasting trade. For economy, her sailing rig has been reduced to her fore and aft sails, and would only have been used in favourable wind conditions.
