Item: The wreck of the Vert Prarial which went ashore, with total loss of life at Wireless Point, Porthcurno on 13 March 1956
Description: A naval captain stands on the side of the upturned trawler, loosely holding a rope. A diver is set to jump into the water. The bodies of the entire Breton crew of 17, including its Skipper Jean Baptiste Coppin, were taken home to Dieppe from Penzance on the trawler Gai Floreal (which grounded west of St Ives on 4 January 1963.) The Vert Prarial, Gai Floreal and the Jean Gougy were of the same 32m class built in Canada in 1948 as part of the Comptoir de Reconstruction to rebuild the French industrial fishing fleet after World War II.
