Item: The cannon, the gun carriage and the explanatory plaque outside the School of Arts in Penzance
Description: The cannon, thought to be a legacy of the 1588 Spanish Armada, was a demi-culverin salvaged by the Western Marine Salvage Company on 13 October 1915 from Low Lee Rock. With the permission of the Board of Trade, they gave it to the town of Penzance. It and the gun carriage were refurbished in the 1950s and in one photograph, the cannon is being lowered into place by a small crane. The cannon was stolen in the 1990s when an attempt to steal the cannon from St Michael's Mount was thwarted. Its plaque, in 2012, remains outside the Arts School in Morrab Road, Penzance.
