Item: MV Amcotts in St Ives Harbour after being towed off Clodgy Point by the lifeboat Edgar George Orlando and Eva Child
Description: The picture, taken from Smeaton's Pier on 16 September 1957, shows the pilot boat Ada; MV Amcotts of Port Harcourt with a pusher bow; the pleasure boat Cornish Queen and the lifeboat Edgar George Orlando and Eva Child. The Amcotts was a river pusher tug built by W J Yarwood of Northwich, Cheshire on the River Weaver. She was owned by John Holt. Her open decks were built up with temporary timber structures for her sea-going voyage. She was not designed to navigate deep sea. Yarwoods built many overseas vessels, tugs, barges, dredgers, etc. The Amcotts was on voyage from Northwich, Cheshire to West Africa when she went aground in fog west of Clodgy Point. She was towed off by the St Ives lifeboat and brought into St Ives before continuing her voyage.
