The volume of men and cars suggests that it could have been market day when the cattle markets in St Clare Street cames into their own. Market Jew is Marghas Yow in Cornish, Thursday market in English. There was a large Jewish population in the area from the 18th to the 20th centuries and their market would have been on a Thursday as no transactons could take place on the Sabbath. The post office is the large building oppposite; to its left is R & V Davy.
