Item: The Serenity aground off Lelant, January 1957
Description: The sand is being dug away in order to refloat the ship "Serenity", aground on the sands off Lelant, on the next tide. She was built by George Brown of Greenock in 1941 and sold to Greece in 1967. She was 557 gross tons, 168.7' x 27.7' x 9.6' with a Newbury 5 cylinder diesel engine. Everard's coaster 'Serenity', laden with cement, ran aground on Hayle Bar in January 1957, and she was subsequently floated off safely.
