Item: Merryweather Fire Engine, 1885
Description: A horse drawn manual fire pump made by Merryweather and Sons 1885. This is possibly a publicity photograph for Merryweather. Standard design, used all over the country, this fire engine used steam power to raise the water level to put through the hoses. It usually took two horses to pull it. Penzance had an inadequate water supply to take advantage of this.
