Item: Wilton & Nicholls Ltd, Ironmongers, 18 Market Jew Street, Penzance.
Description: A photograph of Wilton & Nicholls with its delivery van in the foreground. Thomas Wilton died in 1920 and his assistant, Walter Nicholls, took over the company in 1923, when it became Wilton & Nicholls Ltd. The earliest date for the photograph is therefore 1923.. The firm's telephone number is written on their van and appears in Kellys Trade Directory of 1926. Next door is the Gainsborough Studio run by the photographers 'The Lawley Brothers'. By 1930 WH Lawley had also become an accredited optician. Their shop window is slightly out of focus but all the items seem to relate only to photography. Therefore this photograph can most likely be dated between 1923-1929.
