Item: Wheels of the Royal yacht paddle steamer 'Osborne'.
Description: Presumed to be wheels of the Royal yacht paddle steamer, 'Osborne' built Pembroke Dock, launched 1870. Decommissioned 1908. 1.856tons. Length 250ft. Beam 36ft. This arrangement of three steering wheels was typically used by large sailing ships until the end of the 19th century. The yacht was used for foreign visits including to India 1875 by the Prince of Wales and also for regular visits to the Isle of Wight. See also 1994.1.42
