Identification
Item: Morrish Grocers, Chapel Street, Penzance
Description: A crowd of people outside Morrish Grocers enjoying the music of the accordion and tambourine players, possibly during Golowan or for the arrival of the circus or fair in town. The children appear fascinated by something out of view. The shop had been run as a Grocer's by Thomas Bastian from around 1873 until his death in 1888. It is possible that John Morrish took it over then, however he is first mentioned in a local newspaper in 1890. In 1891, the Census records that he is a Grocer there aged 28, but he has ceased trading there by 1899, when WA James trades there as an Ironmonger.
