Item: Heavy Wagon loaded with granite blocks on Ross Bridge, Penzance.
Description: A heavy wagon on Ross Bridge, Penzance, probably drawn by four horses loaded with granite blocks from quarries at Lamorna, being taken to Penzance Station to be loaded onto railway trucks. The weight that these heavy wagons could carry was covered by the width of the iron tyres on the wheels for every inch of width would carry a ton. The brakes known as 'Knave Drugs' were broken iron bands with wood inside which ran in a channel on the inside of the 'Knave' or wheel centre which could be screwed on by the driver. The shoe 'drug' was a metal slipper which could be passed under a rear wheel to lock it from turning altogether.
