Description: Penzance : Harbour Scene (c.1890). A man standing in a rowing boat off Penzance harbour (believed to be John Branwell, eldest son of J. R. & Elizabeth Branwell), appears to be winding a fishing line onto a wooden frame. In shot are two steam-vessels and a small lug-rigged boat. Only the stern of the steamer to the left is visible, but she appears to be the s.s. Lyonnesse, built at Hayle in 1889, for the West Cornwall Steamship Co., Ltd. – probably moored alongside the extension (lighthouse) pier. To the right is an unidentified, black-hulled, steam yacht . In the background can be seen the viaduct of the Wharf Road, adjoining the Ross Bridge, and the outer face of the Albert pier. The dome of the Market House, breaks the skyline above the town.
Condition: Good - slight discolouration to the bottom, left and right edges with a medium amount of foxing across the photograph.
