A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Identification

Item: Maud Branwell and Bernard Foyster's wedding group

Description: The marriage group at South Parade, Penzance of Maud, second daughter of Charles Branwell and niece of JR Branwell, who lived at Penlee House, to Bernard Foyster. The child bridesmaid to the right is Vera Primrose Branwell, eldest child of Alfred Branwell and grandchild of JR Branwell. Elizabeth Trewhella suggests that the bridesmaid on the far right could be Maud's younger sister, Gertrude, later Mrs Dixon. The couple on the left may be Ada, Maud's sister, and her husband William Drew. Charles Branwell and his wife Mary Ann resided at South Parade in Penzance.

Condition: Good - medium amount of discolouration to the left edge and a small amount of foxing to the bottom edge of the photograph.
