Item: Tresco Abbey gardens upper terrace with Neptune's Steps
Description: A photograph of 'Neptune Steps' within the gardens of Tresco Abbey at Tresco, the Isles of Scilly. The garden was built based around the ruins of St Nicholas Priory, which had fallen into disrepair in the sixteenth century. An unknown man lays on the steps looking towards the camera; the gardens were open to the public in this period. At the end of the terrace stands a mounted monument of Neptune. The Branwell family were on good terms with the family and liked to swop plants.
Condition: Good - discolouration to the right and bottom edge of the photograph. A small amount of foxing to the top half of the photograph.
