Identification
Item: A Characteristic thoroughfare, Newlyn 1893
Description: The house on the right, Primrose House, was lived in by painter and decorator Mr Waters in the 1920s. It has an ornate door surround and doorstep. Next door is a house with a tall chimney for fish smoking. It was occupied by Belgian refugees in the second world war. Opposite is Penguin House with stone steps leading to an upstairs fish cellar. The shuttered house in the foreground has a grid over the entrance to a fish cellar. Mrs Grace Payne ran this as a general store at the turn of the 20th century.
