Item: Hendra's Hotel, Carbis Bay
Description: Hendra's Hotel, Carbis Bay. In 1887 Maria Hendra, ex Camborne pastry cook, built Maria Villa in Carbis Bay for the good health of her husband, an ex miner who had worked in South America. This was the first boarding house in Carbis Bay. The villa was extended in 1889 and became known as Hendra's Hotel in 1892 - the hotel was family run for 98 years.
