Item: Gulval Church
Description: Interior of Gulval Church, pre 1918. Centre left is Bolitho Chapel, built by R.F. Bolitho in 1892; it's pillars are Bath stone as opposed to granite used in old church. Chancel screen added in 1919 by R Bolitho in memory of his sister; the memorial reads 'To the glory of God and in loving memory of his beloved sister' - visitors are amused to find this unexpected addition to God's immediate family. The oil lamps were converted to electricity in 1926 when the church had its own power plant installed. Prior to this the organ was powered by water taken from the reservoir behind the church which drove a dynamo which in turn ran the bellows.
