Item: SS Bluejacket on Longships 1898
Description: SS Bluejacket struck the rocks of Longships on 9 November 1898 just before midnight. She was carrying ballast from Plymouth to Cardiff. The weather was thick with a strong ESE wind but the shore lights were visible.The crew and the Captain's wife were rescued by the Sennen Cove Lifeboat. Joseph Breen of Penzance bought the wreck for salvage although was still visible on Longships in January 1900.The ship was built in 1883 by JL Thompson of Sunderland for the Bluejacket Steamship Co of Cardiff.
