Item: Wreck of SS Plympton, 1909
Description: Shipwreck of SS Plympton on the Lethegus Reef, south side of St. Agnes, in thick fog on 14 August 1909. 23 crew were safely landed. She was on a voyage from Argentina to Dublin with a cargo of maize. St. Agnes islanders were salvaging from the ship when she suddenly sank and two were drowned. A visitor escaped through a porthole carrying the steward's dinner bell. The Plympton was built for Furness Withy Co. of West Hartlepool in 1893.
