Item: The SS Lady Charlotte off Porthellick, Isles of Scilly on 14 May 1917 - one ship and two stories
Description: The Lady Charlotte was built in 1883 at Howdon on Tyne (where a standard steamship could be purchased from 1898 to 1906). In 1917 she was an Admiralty collier of 3,593 gross tones carrying coal from Cardiff to Alexandria when, stranded in dense fog, she hit the rocks at the mouth of Porth Hellick. All the crew were saved and she seems to have been rebuilt for service between 1922 and 1936.
