Item: Omer Denise, Belgian trawler wrecked at Coverack in 1932
Description: The Belgian trawler Omer Denise registration O 251 of Ostend, was wrecked at Coverack in 1932. She was lost on 4 March and found abandoned the next day with her engine still running. Her crew were later rescued, adrift in their small boat off The Lizard. Her engine, a new 180 hp Deutz diesel was salvaged by the Padstow pilchard boat Trevessa. Omer Denise was a regular visitor to Newlyn where she was known as "The Banana Boat" because of her unusual Dutch hull shape. She was built in 1906, probably in Holland.
