Item: Operation Verity 1949, HMS Implacable
Description: The Fleet Carrier HMS Implacable in Mount's Bay on 4 July 1949. The smoke is probably from a firing salute. She was commanded by Admiral McGregor C in C of the Home Fleet, launched in 1944 and weighed 26,000 tons. Many events were organised on shore which included salutes, dances on Penzance Promenade, Newlyn Fish Market, The Winter Gardens, soccer, cricket, water polo, concerts and the ships were opened to the public.
