Item: St Ives from the pier, pre 1910
Description: Smeaton's Pier before 1910. The empty harbour suggests summer as mackerel boats were off to the North Sea for herring and the Pilchard Drivers would be based at Newlyn. Along the left wall of the pier are the drying foot lines, and the gig on the pier is the Pilot gig (blown and smashed in 1920s storm).
