Item: Penzance Quay Street, c.1890
Description: The 111’ tower of St Mary’s Church dominates Quay Street with The Ship Inn on the left and the Harbour Office on the corner. This was taken down after the 1914-1918 War to make way for a road to connect the harbour with the Promenade. Previously Quay Street, with Chapel Street at its top, had linked Voundervour Lane to Newlyn and Market Place, Penzance. Paunch’s Ope is on the right. Points of interest are the observatory, the shutters, the steps up to the pavement where four men have collected, the weather vane and the gas lamps on the Harbour Office
