Item: Penzance Promenade
Description: Penzance Promenade, left to to right: railings to the new, wide promenade; shelter; post office; Folly House; serpentine works; Queen's Hotel; Captain's Row; St Mary's Church; Battery Square; Battens Wharf. The lower walkway was a popular place for young people taking a Sunday evening stroll, up to 1939. Ladies were allowed to bathe from this beach at certain times of day when gentlemen were excluded from looking over the area.
