Description: The Carbis Bay Hotel was built in 1894 over old mine workings. The name Carbis Bay was invented by the Great Western Railway during the building of the St Ives branch line from St Erth which was completed in 1877. The old districts before the invention of Carbis Bay were Carbis Valley, Carbis Water at the top of the valley or Baripper of Carracts Gladden Cove, and the Beach.
