Item: Newlyn Harbour in the 1950s
Description: This photograph, taken for the Town Guide shows Newlyn Harbour,in the early 1950s, shows the trawler PZ697 and two boys with gleaming bicycles. The bike to the right has its mudguard painted white, perhaps a left over from wartime when lighting was restricted. Centre right is part of the fish market with Newlyn Town Hall in the background. Our Katie has been fitted out for bottom trawling as signified by the steel gantries on her side decks and the fish basket hoisted on the forestay indicating her activities to other vessels when at sea.
