Item: Gunwalloe showing the shipwreck of SS 'Brankelow' in foreground on 21 April 1890.
Description: SS 'Brankelow' grounded near Gunwalloe in a light SW breeze and slight haze at 12.30am on 21 April 1890. Her crew of 29 came ashore but the Captain remained aboard until late afternoon. Salvage work began but the ship broke up. At the time of her wreck the 'Brankelow' had been charted by the Russian Government and was carrying coal from Cardiff to Kronstadt. She had been built in Stockton in1882.
