Item: SS Tripolitania, Loe Bar, Porthleven, 26 December 1912
Description: SS Tripolitania sailed from Genoa for Barry dock on 18 December 1912 in ballast. She was caught in a 100mph WSW gale and Captain Reppito decided to beach the ship on Loe Bar. One of the crew was swept away but 27 got ashore. Several attempts were made to salvage the ship, with labourers digging away the sand. The ship was broken up. The Tripolitania was built on the Mersey in 1905, as the Drumgarth. It was sold to Genoa in December 1911.
