Item: Proclamation of Elizabeth II at St John's Hall, Alverton, Penzance.
Description: An account of the proclamation is given in The Cornishman of 14 February 1952. The mayor was George Ford who stands behind the rostrum, which has been draped in purple. The ceremonial maces have been covered with black cloth and the town crier carries a muffled bell. Members of the Penzance Silver Band are in the front of the crowd to the left. Their leader, Mr EE Thomas (in fron of the rostrum) acted as bugler and played the Last Post. Three tolls on the muffled bell introduced the traditional cry, "Oh Yes, Oh Yes, Pray Silence for His Worship the Mayor". The proclamation was then read; the Reveille sounded; "God Save the Queen" sung followed by three cheers for the new Queen. The procession headed by a drmmer then proceeded to the Market House where the proclamation was read again.
