Item: A Bromine wagon on the Hayle Wharves branch
Description: Bromine wagons were seen regularly on the Hayle Wharves branch line. Adjacent to the Power Station on Hayle Wharves was the works of Associated Octel built in 1939 for the extraction of Bromide from sea water which was used in the manufacture of octane boosters for aviation fuel and motor gasoline. The works closed in 1973. The Hayle Wharves branch closed in April 1981. In 2012 a new road bridge was built to cope with the traffic associated with the offshore wind turbine project.
