Identification
Item: What is Life?
Description: A man wearing a hooded, checked dressing gown with tassels like curtain pulls stands, eyes towards heaven, hands towards the ground. Behind him a shiny, padded chair with a seat below knee level, a cross legged pedestal, conservatory windows partly concealed by wood and flowers and a french door into a substantial building. It reminds the researcher of a scene from the 1950s when many patients recovering from tuberculosis spent time in airy conservatories at Tehidy Hospital and the Bolitho Convalesent Home. The picture is a mystery, possibly originating from a private collection.
