Item: US Liner 'Paris' of New York, a three funnelled steamer on rocky coast at Lowland Point.
Description: US Liner 'Paris' of New York, ran ashore at Lowland Point, near Coverack on 21 May 1899 in misty weather. The 'Paris' was from Cherbourg for New York with general cargo carrying 370 crew and 386 passengers. All passengers were taken off by the Porthoustock & Falmouth lifeboats and transferred to tugs which took them to Falmouth. The ship was towed off by a fleet of tugs on 13 July 1899 and towed to Falmouth.
