Identification
Item: The Ash Wednesday Storm wreaks havoc along Penzance Promenade
Description: An attempt to clean up the mess caused by the Ash Wednesday storm is seen here opposite Cornwall Terrace. It looks as if rain and high winds are hampering the exercise. This could be compared with the 1880 storm photograph of the area around the summer shelter in the centre of the picture. Under the control of the Borough Surveyor, Peter Tresidder, repairs were effected so that Penzance would be open for the summer season. This is one of a series of photographs of the Richard Brothers commissioned by the Council to record the event. The Borough Surveyor commissioned E Ford to take a separate set of photographs.
