Identification
Item: SS Princess Louise
Description: The Princess Louise was a 16 ton excursion steamer hired by the West Cornwall Steam Ship Company Ltd in 1907 to supplement their regular steamer Lyonnesse, possibly whilst she was undergoing her annual overhaul prior to the onset of the winter storms. She was advertised in the Cornishman as being on the Penzance to Scillies run on or after 8 September. She is not flying the red ensign but the flag 'H' which denotes that she is carrying a pilot. When the Lyonnesse was laid up during the Great War, the service was taken over by the Earl of Leitrim’s yacht, Melrose, assisted by the Princess Louise. She was built in 1898 to run trips from Oban, often connecting with railway journeys. She was taken over by MacBrayene. She sailed to Loch Ness and Fort Augustus. She was a livestock carrier. She was bombed in May 1941.
