Identification
Item: Land's End.
Description: Ten miles to the south-west of Penzance. It is the extreme western point of Britain, which here terminates in a turfy slope and a granite cliff seventy feet high. The columnar piles present a strange, not to say weird, appearance. The Scilly Isles, thirty miles away, are plainly visible in clear weather. The scenery is truly "stern and wild". The strong sea-wall is indented and pierced here and there by pleasantly secluded coves and curious caverns, the work of the sea beating for ages against its rocky barrier.
