Item: Mullion Church, Mullion, Cornwall.
Description: The inside of Mullion Church looking towards the altar. The church is dedicated to St Mellanus, who was Bishop of Rennes (capital of Brittany). He died in the mid 6th century and is also honoured at St Mullion. The church is thought to be no older than 13th century. The N & S aisles are later additions. The north door has a rounded arch, but this dates from the 16th century. The tower was built in 1500 and the chancel was rebuilt between 1512 and 1548. Above the N.door is a Royal Coat of Arms said to have been bestowed by Charles II. It is suggested that the oak pews were made from an ancient forest on what is now Goonhilly Downs, but as large oak trees would have been needed, the source was likely to have been elsewhere.
