Item: Penlee House in the 1930s
Description: Originally built and owned by the Branwell family. After WWll a public appeal by the Mayor, Robert Thomas, raised funds to purchase the Penlee House and Gardens as a war memorial. The museum was opened by Sir Cyril Fox on 24th June 1949. Penlee House Museum and Art Gallery was re-opened in 1997 after an extensive renovation.
