Item: The Mackerel Fleet setting sail from Extension Pier, Penzance
Description: The mackerel fleet is setting sail from Penzance harbour suggesting a favourable wind after a storm and a time before the building of Newlyn Pier in 1896. The Mounts Bay Lugger on the left is 'sleeping out'. The boat with a white sail, PH90, is a Plymouth trawling cutter or trawl smack. The adjacent East Coast drifter has a punt on board.
