Description: This photograph could have been taken by Sweetman or Churchward for a tourism guide or for a postcard to promote Penzance as a seaside tourist destination with parks and gardens and a warm winter climate. The Bolitho Gardens were opened on a former industrial site in 1916, were destroyed by the Ash Wednesday storm of 1962. The raised area was used as a viewing platform or bandstand.
