Item: View through storm damaged sea wall towards the South Pier at Newlyn
Description: This picture shows the damage to sea wall at Tolcarne after the 1962 Ash Wednesday storm had breached sea defences. In centre rear of picture can be seen loading equipment to do with transporting stone from Penlee Quarry which was used extensively in the repairs. Also pictured is the photographer, Reg Richards whose firm was commissioned by Penzance Borough to photograph the storm damage. After a brief repoort from the Borough Surveyor, the sea front was repaired, the sea wall strengthened and all was ready for the summer tourist season.
