Identification
Item: The Cider Press at Trewinnard
Description: This is a wooden cider press mounted on block. It seems to be in a dilapidated shed of the same height with rough stone walls, a rubble or earth floor and a steeply sloping roof with wooden beams. There appears to be a low vat with a wooden lid in the corner. This is a horse or donkey powered press. Apples would be poured into the stone base and the central stone would be turned around to pulp the fruit. Juice would be drained off and strained into barrels for fermentation. Proper cider apples need no added sugar.
