Description: St Ives Harbour from the West Pier in 1894 to 1904 probably from the Lifeboat Slip at Market Strand. At least five mackerel boats are visible with mizzen sails set and temporarily moored. The practice during the mackerel season was to anchor on temporary moorings, land the catch in a punt and get away again as quickly as possible. The mackerel season was from March until the end of June.
