Item: HM Submarine L1 aground near the Brisons
Description: Submarine L1 had been launched by Vickers of Barrow in 1917, the first of the successful L Class, some of which served until World War 1. She served in Hong Kong before being scrapped and was being towed from Chatham to Newport when she went ashore here at Penanwell Cove near Cape Cornwall. She was scrapped on site.
