Item: RMS Scillonian Arrival from Isles of Scilly at Penzance.
Description: The RMS Scillonian alongside the quay at Penzance Harbour with the boat deck crowded with passengers waiting to disembark and people on the quay. The RMS Scillonian was built by Ailsa Ship Building of Troon, Scotland. Length 177 ft; Beam 28.5 ft; Draft 10.5 ft; Speed 12.5 knots; 390 Passengers; 165 tons cargo. In service from 1926 - 1956. In 1942 the Scillonian grounded in fog near St Mary's Harbour and in 1951 she again grounded near St Agnes where the launch Kittern and St Mary's lifeboat took passengers off. The car in the foreground could be a 1930s Crossley. Crossley set up business in Manchester in 1867. In 1869, they acquired the UK and World rights to the patents of Otto & Longdon of Cologne, i.e. for the 4 stroke engine.
