Item: An aerial photograph of the dock and town, Penzance from the south-east.
Description: An aerial view of the floating dock and Penzance town from the south. In the foreground is the southern seawall of the floating dock and several craft. Alongside the southern wall are THV 'Satellite' (see note below) and an unidentified auxiliary ketch. Alongside the western wall is a lightship - possibly the 'Seven-Stones' - in for refitting. Alongside the northern wall is an ex-naval Motor Launch, probably one of the Fairmile classes, with another slightly larger naval vessel further along the wall to the east. Adjacent to the Rank's granary on the eastern arm of the dock, are several unidentified craft which may be pleasure boats. At the southern end of the transit sheds, on the western wharf, opposite the Harbour office, is an open space that was the Leswidden china clay plot, built on in the 1950s to create the 'Waterside' cafe/restaurant. The old office block and flag-pole stand at the entrance to Holman's Dry Dock, which were subsequently demolished. Behind the Abbey Basin off New Street, a row of pre WW2 pre-fabs are in view together with the black chimney of the Penzance Laundry, as are the extensive Penzance Gas Works in Wharf Road.
