Item: St. Mary's Chapel, Penzance
Description: This is a photograph of an engraving of St. Mary's Chapel which was pulled down to build the St Mary's Church in Chapel Street, Penzance. The street was named after this Chapel of Ease. It was damaged by the Spanish in 1595. Men and women were segregated during the services. The last service was celebrated here on 29 July 1832. During the year the new church was being built, services were held in a temporary church in the field to the right of where the Public Buildings are in 2013. Two hatted male figures stand to the right; there is fencing near the bell tower.
